Description
It's been a tough week here -- last Saturday, my husband 's mother, Susan, died after being in poor health for a long time. One of the options they had at the funeral home was to have a photo 'painted on canvas' --- a good idea but one they vetoed as they already had an artist in residence.
It was a tough portrait to paint -- I really wanted to paint her with the auburn hair she'd always had until her chemo but since then it changed color. It's really hard to paint someone that you've known for so long because the image in your head is nothing like the reference photo you're working from, especially when life has changed them so much. I think the family will be pleased and I really hope they like it.

It's a beautiful portrait. I love the texture of her hair.
