ConDFW ---
I like the new hotel with its 9 story atrium right up to the roof, very visually stunning. This year had a lot of steampuck costumers and several steampuck vendors in the dealers room. The best thing about ConDFW? Two words -- JIM BUTCHER. Great, great guy and he not only signed my copy of "Mean Streets" but he also signed my character sketch of Toot-toot. I'm going to admire it for a few months before I put it up in the charity auction at Fencon. The bad, and it's pretty BAD, is the sucky room that the art room got stuck in. It was a 'bistro' room, most likely used as a banquet or private dining room, that you had to go thru the restaurant to get to. It had several levels with steps that were not handicapped accessible and the lighting was that cave dimness that most restaurants go for. I actually moved my stuff off a panel with better visibility to another with better light, not that it helped because I sold absolutely NOTHING there. I'm skipping ConDFW next year.
Furry Fiesta ---
I only did the art show here because I was already booked into ConDFW but let me say this -- I LOVE FURRY FIESTA!!! This is a new con so there were a few rough edges but the art staff was enthusiatic and helpful. I sold nine out of the sixteen pics that I took there, including both cat dancer pics, Ms. Magick, Texas Tawnee, Calico Jack and others. I got there early and found the art show locked while they were sorting out the sold art so I wandered around wearing my ConDFW badge and hoping security would be lenient if they caught me. (I think by Sunday afternoon, they were too tired to care.) I am DEFINITELY booking this convention for next year. I think it might be a better niche for me.
Yay!
