A-kon 20 has come and gone and boy, are my legs tired! No escalators (hotel charges extra fees when they break down so the A-kon staff had them switched OFF for the duration of the con) and overloaded slow elevators had me going up and down the stairwell all weekend. This was not fun toting my bags of pics up to the art show on the third floor.

However, I did do really well in the art show, selling ten pictures including a direct sale on Friday which really surprised me. This is very encouraging for AnthroCon in July so I'll work on a few more original pieces before I do another matting session.

I was a little disturbed by the number of talented young artists that didn't make the effort to prep their artwork for the show. It says clearly in the rules that artwork should be matted or backed, preferably shrinkwrapped or bagged. Instead there were artists who just popped it in a page protector or mounted it on poster board (in some cases peeling off like old paint) or just hanging the pic as is, freshly trimmed from the sketchbook.

And then they wonder why they don't sell. Oy.

I'm fighting the urge to offer to do a panel about how to prepare one's art for an art show. It's so easy to do and if you know the tricks, it can be relatively inexpensive. The question is how to lug my Logan mat cutter, matboard and paraphenalia on the train to the convention.

hmmmm.
